Base design for the Materialki Labs in the Grishaverse books by Leigh Bardugo.
This is one of several labs- all placed side by side, on the back side of the Little Palace. This specific laboratory includes the desks of the two Materalki managers (a Durast and a Materalki), two fume hoods, multi-planed windows for blast sustainability, a global map, and a view to the outside compost bin.
This design takes in mind the cultural contexts of this lab. The Materalkia are a group of multi-cultural refugees, so there are paintings of various idols and gods on the wall by the door, as well as a painting of the Ravkan king. Young Materialki are often socially distanced from their peers, so the lab is fully furnished for kids. There are smaller-scaled desks and chairs, both solo and groups of them, as well as dangerous liquids stored up high away from small curious hands, and an assortment of toys and activities.
Further, the Materialki are conscious of the suspicions placed on their work, and so hide their more concerning experiments away from clear view. The mined-out sub-basement includes more storage, a soft rug, hidden liquor, and chairs for relaxation. There is evidence, of course, of some dark experiments.
